ALBUM OF THE WEEKEND: “SUBSTANCE ABUSE” BY JADED

We discovered the extraordinary Jaded thanks to his latest beautiful album entitled “Substance Abuse”.

We immediately fell in love with this 7 tracks generous project.

Reassuring voices, strong messages like in “If I Died Tonight”, one of the singles and also our favourite song from the album, incredible musical arrangements, and flawless production: this is what we call real music.
Jaded tells us stories with heart, hope, and incomparable vocal performances. We were curious to know more about her admirable career and creative process. Let’s discover the beautiful Jaded in 7 questions below :
LISTEN ON SPOTIFY:

1. Can you please tell our readers your real name as well as your stage name?

My real name is Jaden, which my mom chose because I had green eyes (though they have since turned brown). My stage name is Jaded, because it’s a play on my name but also my outlook on things – I tend to have a harsh perspective on life due to my struggles with poverty, drug abuse, loss, and such

2. Where are you from and Where are you based?

I’m from the Bay Area, Sonoma County more specifically, but I am now based in Los Angeles trying to pursue the music dream. It’s been cool because I’ve been able to meet great people from both parts of Cali and build some awesome relationships.
3.At What age did you start making music?

I started making music as in recording when I was about 17, but before that, I had written poetry for a long time and had always been fascinated by rhythm and melody. I didn’t start really getting serious about music until more recently, and as of 2020, I have been doing all I can to make it my career by truly treating it like one.

4. What genre would you consider yourself?

I always struggle to answer this question, because I want to pay homage to all the people that have helped influence me. I definitely have drawn inspiration from countless different hip hop artists and I think a lot of my stuff is “hip hop”, but I am also appreciate of rock music, punk music, metal, alternative, indie, r&b, and much much more. So I try and incorporate different styles and sounds into my songs.
Lately, I’ve been working more on a lot of lofi sing-rap music, but now that I’ve written about 25 songs like that, I’m going to be focusing on making some more experimental stuff – more aggressive, more energy.

5.Tell us about your latest track or Video ( what is it all about)–Please explain the concept or message.
My latest album is “Substance Abuse” which is a 7 track project that goes through the sort of mixed emotions I experience on a daily basis.
The title is of course in reference to my struggles with drugs, but the album also contains details of my upbringing, my past relationships, my battles with mental illness, etc.
I think that in terms of the completeness of the album, it is my best project to date by far. I offer a lot of different styles, flows, and voices throughout and I was proud of how it all came together in the end

6.If you were given a chance, which Artist would you love to perform with?

If I had a chance, there are a million artists I would work with. Definitely people from the emo rap scene, like Iann Dior. But I am also a huge fan of more conscious artists, people like Mick Jenkins and Noname and Saba. And I also have a long, long list in a notebook of mine of all of the singers I’d love to work with, from Lauv and Dominic Fike to Frank Ocean to Demi Lovato.
7. Where can fans find you? List all your social media links
